FAQS

HOW LONG DOES EACH THERAPY SESSION LAST?

Sessions are scheduled for 50 minutes.  The remaining 10 minutes are reserved for administrative tasks (payment, appointment scheduling).

For sessions with children and adolescents, the 50-minute session is shared between the youth and the parent.  How the time is shared may vary depending on the presenting issues and concerns.

WHAT DOES THE FIRST SESSION LOOK LIKE?

Your first session will be a "get to know you" meeting. The purpose is to help create as accurate and as whole a picture of you as possible, to help guide next steps. There will also be a number of forms for you to review and complete, including a review of confidentiality and limits of confidentiality, consent, and intake information forms.

For parents, you will attend the first session without your child or adolescent.  This is important, as it allows you the time and space to not only complete all of the first meeting forms, but also to share your perspective of your child.

Note: Consent from both parents / legal guardians is required for children and adolescents under the age of 16 to participate in therapy.

ARE PSYCHOLOGY SERVICES COVERED BY MEDICARE OR INSURANCE?

Psychologist fees are not covered by medicare.

The majority of insurance providers do cover some measure of payment.  It will be important for you to call your insurance provider to ask what their specific guidelines are. Questions you may want to consider asking include:

  • How many sessions / how much of a total coverage amount do I have per year?

  • Do I need a referral/prescription from my family doctor in order to be reimbursed?

  • What information do I need to provide in order to be reimbursed?

  • How long will reimbursement take?

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT FEES AND PAYMENT OPTIONS?

The fee for a therapy hour (50 minute session, 10 minute administrative tasks) is $220.00.

Payment is due at the end of the session, and can be paid by cash, e-transfer, debit card, or credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express).

After payment, you will be provided with an official receipt.  This receipt can be used to process insurance claims and for tax purposes.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I NEED TO CANCEL AN APPOINTMENT OR I MISS AN APPOINTMENT?

You are required to cancel or reschedule your appointment with a minimum of 24 hours notice. You can do so by email or by phone.

Session fees of $220.00 per hour will be charged for sessions that are missed or cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.

Emergency situations will be considered on a case by case basis.
